Post-capacity grant to help launch the Success Direct strategy, which will serve four-year college-going students referred by other youth-serving agencies. Bottom Line also received a $695,500 capacity building grant in 2008.

Compass Working Capital
To enhance the agency’s technology in order to automate client-focused systems and to provide remote, web-based coaching services across several sites.

Family Independence Initiative (FII)
To add staff capacity and eight community fellows to support the organization as it grows to serve more families taking steps to build their own paths toward self-sufficiency.

Health Leads
For start-up costs for new sites and for program evaluation that will assess the agency’s impact on clinic operations and patient progress.

Hyde Square Task Force
Post-capacity grant for renovations to increase the Chevrus Building’s use, functionality, safety, and accessibility for youth programming. Hyde Square Task Force also received a $620,778 capacity building grant in 2007.

To retain technology expertise to enhance and develop new technology systems to manage the growing number of applicants the organization attracts annually to its entrepreneur startup competition.

Post-capacity grant to support new staff positions focused on building the agency’s social enterprises in food service, catering, and food manufacturing and on optimizing revenue from the agency’s new facility. UTEC also received a $944,780 capacity building grant in 2009.



College Bound Dorchester
To strengthen the organization’s capacity in case management and student intake/placement in support of its mission of college access and success for disadvantaged youth.

More Than Wheels
To create a technology-based client portal for distance consulting and service delivery to help low-income residents repair their credit and purchase reliable, affordable transportation.

To strengthen the organization’s evaluation capacity in support of its mission to move women and families up and out of poverty.



Artists for Humanity
To strengthen outcomes measurement, increase earned income, and expand employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth in arts-related industries.

Boston Debate League
To strengthen the agency’s development and evaluation capacities in support of its mission to increase educational attainment through debate.

Crittenton Women’s Union
To help the agency develop the tools and practices needed grow and disseminate its Mobility Mentoring approach to helping low-income women become economically self-sufficient.

Families United in Educational Leadership (FUEL)
To assist the agency in strengthening its evaluation, communications, and marketing functions in support of its mission to increase college access for low-income youth.

The Steppingstone Foundation
To design and implement a comprehensive evaluation system for use in the Steppingstone Academy program and the new College Success Academy program, and to use as a challenge grant for the College Success Academy. Steppingstone also received a $1,000,000 capacity building grant in 2003.



Cradles to Crayons
For costs related to the agency’s campaign to relocate to a new facility in Brighton, MA, which would double its impact. Cradles to Crayons also received a $590,000 capacity building grant in 2008.



More Than Words
To hire a development director and to enable 50 percent of the director of operation’s time to be focused on evaluation in support of the agency’s mission to empower youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business.

United Teen Equality Center
To hire a full-time evaluation and learning director and a full-time major gifts officer, and to use toward consulting for evaluation and IT. The agency seeks to ignite and nurture the ambition of Lowell’s most disconnected young people to trade violence and poverty for social and economic success.



The B.E.L.L. Foundation (Building Educated Leaders for Life)
To develop and launch an Alumni Program in Boston, extending the impact of this after-school and summer enrichment program. BELL also received a $1,000,000 capacity building grant in 2003.

Boston Teacher Residency (now a part of Boston Plan for Excellence)
For teacher recruitment, preparation, and induction for Boston Public Schools to meet its goals of increasing teacher quality, improving retention, and alleviating critical teacher shortages in math, science, and special education.

Bottom Line
For an operations assistant, development associate, alumni coordinator, and to fund a public relations plan. The agency promotes college access and success for first generation college students.

Cradles to Crayons
For database integration and web development, consulting to implement a train-the-trainer model, and outreach materials. The organization provides basic needs support for low-income families and service learning opportunities for youth and adults.

Raising a Reader-Massachusetts
To hire a development manager and to purchase software for evaluation purposes for this early literacy program.

For evaluation consulting, systems, and staff training for this agency serving at-risk teens and young adults.

Year Up

Summer Search Boston
For a development coordinator, outreach coordinator, recruitment materials and events, alumni coordinator, and training costs for new staff. The agency provides year-round mentoring and experiential summer learning opportunities for low-income youth.


For a marketing plan, Spanish-speaking loan officer and additional client outreach staff, evaluation system, and board recruitment for this micro-enterprise lending program.

Citizen Schools
For a portion of the executive director’s time, a new program director, corporate relations and teaching staff, allocated management cost, and external evaluation. The agency provides after-school programming for middle school youth.
