Martin’s Park at the Smith Family Waterfront Opens

June 15th, 2019

Martin’s Park at the Smith Family Waterfront officially opened to the public on June 15, 2019. The Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation made a $3 million gift toward the construction of the park next to the Boston Children’s Museum in honor of Martin W. Richard, the youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombings.

“We are proud and excited to help bring this gift of a world-class park to Boston in memory of Martin Richard. We are inspired by the courage and resilience of the Richard family and believe this park is a fitting tribute to their son. We want to thank the Parks Department, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, and the Richard family for their incredible work to make this vision a reality. It has surpassed our every expectation. We look forward to sharing this park with our children, grand-children, and children from across the city and the region for years to come.” -Debra Smith Knez, Co-Chair
