Playground Opens at Alma del Mar Charter School in New Bedford

August 1st, 2013

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by students, parents, school staff, and New Bedford Mayor Jonathan Mitchell, Alma del Mar Charter School¬†celebrated the opening of its new playground, a project supported through the Foundation’s small capital grant program. To build the playground while saving on construction costs, Alma del Mar mobilized a two-day community build in mid-July that attracted more than 200 volunteers. The playground will serve the New Bedford charter elementary school’s K-4 students and will be open to other members of the community outside of the school day.¬†Alma del Mar opened its doors in 2011 and will grow to be a K-8 school by 2016-2017.
