November 6th, 2012

Dorcas Grigg-Saito, chief executive at the Lowell Community Health Center, was selected by Eastern Bank as the winner of its 2012 Community Advocacy Award.

Under Grigg-Saito’s leadership, the health center has taken on a $42 million facilities expansion and renovation project to improve its ability to provide high-quality health services to more than 50,000 individuals in Greater Lowell. The new community health center is scheduled to open in January 2013.

Bob Rivers, president and chief operating officer of Eastern Bank, said in a statement to the Lowell Sun, “The Merrimack Valley region has many worthy candidates for this honor, but Dorcas stood out for her efforts to provide affordable health care and wellness services to meet the many needs of Lowell’s diverse community.”

The Smith Family Foundation pledged a $500,000 matching gift to the Lowell Community Health Center for its expansion and renovation. It was the first health center outside of Boston to receive support from the Foundation.
